What are Parts?

Life reduced to lego. Most bizarre quote:
"make them do stuff like (bacteria)...mysteriously commit suicide after listening to Beethoven's 9th symphony....and other things that will prove useful to society at large."

I watched this video three times ... just when I think I might have a grasp on what the guy is saying he takes the "parts" concept over the edge and my brain glazes over. And this is exactly the intent. We "ordinary" people have no need to understand natural or synthetic biology as it's intended for scientific geek sorts. They make jokes about bacteria committing suicide after listening to Beethoven's 9th ... that's the only part we understand, the suicide part ... and then we "ordinaries" just let it go. It's intended to sound benign so that we'll leave them alone to continue their work. I'm just a little leery that one of these days the "parts" won't commit suicide.

I know....its too strange to grasp. These are nanoscale parts: very very tiny, that pass through cell walls....if you google biopunk you'll see a subclass of geek that are using the "registry of parts" and garage labs to assemble "devices"...
